How my attendance/participation will contribute to my educational experience:
My doctoral research combines field work with geospatial techniques to investigate, quantify, and predict the impacts of human-mediated land cover change to forest health and diversity. I am interested in researching human-environment interactions using an approach based jointly on geographic information science and landscape ecology to quantify, model and predict the impacts of anthropogenic disturbance and urbanization on the environment. Thus, I am very eager to be exposed to the latest research findings and methods involving the study of the socio-economic drivers of and impacts of urbanization and land use/land cover change to ecological processes. I am not aware of other conferences that concentrate on these issues and anticipate that attending this conference would provide me with unique and timely knowledge and insight that would not otherwise be possible.

Title and authors of my oral/poster proposed for conference:
The influence of contemporary landscape structure vs. landscape legacy on the persistence of native plant diversity and exotic species distribution along an urban to rural gradient Amy Stephens Davis and Ross K. Meentemeyer
