How my attendance/participation will contribute to my educational experience:
I am in the first year of my graduate school career, working towards a Master of Science in Natural Resources. I am interested in forest resource policy and economics as well as sustainable forest management. My research is directly related to the focus of the Emerging Issues Conference. My current project focuses on assessing the effectiveness of biomass harvesting guidelines among loggers, forest managers and forest landowners and then comparing these recommendations to existing forest certification guidelines. The perceived economic or operational feasibility of the biomass harvesting guidelines will then be used to improve the sustainability of harvesting woody biomass for renewable energy.
Having an opportunity to be involved in professional discussions about the intersections of human and natural systems will be influential to my current research as well as beneficial to my future career in forest management. I hope to attend this conference and learn more about ecosystem management so that I may improve my research on the sustainable production and harvesting of woody biomass. Thank you for your consideration.
