How my attendance/participation will contribute to my educational experience:
The Urban-Rural Interfaces conference is one of the few inter-disciplinary meetings that integrates urban natural resources issues with social and economic perspectives. When working in an overwhelmingly biological field, such as forestry, in an urban environment where social and economic issues are, in many cases, more important from a political standpoint, it is difficult to find appropriate outlets for sharing research to colleagues that both understand methods used and the applicability of results discovered. This meeting presents a chance to share my own findings, as well as learn what others in similar fields are researching and discovering. One of the most exciting aspects of inter-disciplinary conferences is the opportunity to explore how very different fields of study can be combined to enhance and strengthen research in a variety of situations. Finally, as I near the end of my graduate education, the need for networking and connection-building opportunities has been increasing. The previous URI conference I attended was invaluable to me with the opportunities to make contacts with people from around the world working on the same urban development issues and share different approaches and methodologies; as well as, meet with faculty or researchers who I could collaborate with in the future.

Title and authors of my oral/poster proposed for conference:
